Run for the 97 5K

Hello everyone! 

Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Tom Cain, and I am the Writer and Director of '97+', based on the 1989 Hillsborough Disaster where severe injuries lead to 97 lives lost.

I am raising funds for the Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance (H.S.A). The HSA rely on donations to fund survivors to undergo Hillsborough Transformational Recovery Model, a therapy designed to help survivors overcome their trauma.

About the play

Set in 2012, Hillsborough Survivors John and Steve each deal with the trauma they suffered as young boys, now as middle-aged men. John bottles up his emotions and only exposes them to his wife Liz as he regularly suffers from night terrors but avoids seeking treatment from the doctors. As opposed to Steve who lives alone but seeks help from the hospital or the vodka bottle as his only support mechanism. Despite countless setbacks, the Hillsborough Survivors continue their fight for justice.

97+ is written in collaboration with the Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance.

Performances

We have performed 15 performances of 97+ including the Liverpool Theatre Festival, Edge Hill University, Buxton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals and more recently the Liverpool Olympia. Each performance helped raise money for this charity, to show my appreciation to the participants who I interviewed as part of my initial research. Without them, I would not have been able to tell their story.
