Rebuilding Hope: Majed's Mission for Gaza's Health
Donation protected
Hello, dear friends and supporters,
I want to share a story that echoes resilience, hope, and a steadfast commitment to rebuilding Gaza's healthcare system—a mission that my friend of over 10 years, Majed Abuawad, carries in his heart. Now even more than ever.
In the aftermath of losing his home during the onset of the war in Gaza due to an airstrike, Majed bravely stepped up amidst hardship and tragedy to assist his community. He volunteered with the healthcare staff in Nuseirat Camp, risking his life to save innocent civilians. Despite sustaining injuries while on duty and enduring numerous displacements, his family finally found refuge in Rafah in January. Life in the tents of Rafah presents its challenges. Still, within this adversity, Majed envisions a transformative journey—to pursue a PhD in Nursing at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada, with a mission rooted in the long-term goal of contributing to the revival of Gaza's healthcare and nursing education.
Majed, a holder of two Master's degrees, is more than an academic achiever; he is a dedicated individual who has witnessed the impact of education and healthcare on communities. In roles as a lecturer at al Azhar University and as a nurse in various institutions, including UNRWA, Ministry of Health hospitals, Al-Awda Hospital, and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, Majed has been at the forefront of healthcare in Gaza.
Purpose of Collecting Funds:
The purpose of collecting funds is to support Majed and his family in departing from Gaza safely and for him to travel to Canada.
Why I am managing the campaign:
I've chosen to manage this campaign to ensure that every donation goes directly to supporting Majed's needs. As the funds will be deposited into my bank account, I will manage withdrawals and disburse the funds to Majed as needed. I'm committed to transparency and accountability throughout this process.
With admission and a Study Permit for Canada in hand, Majed's dream is within reach. However, he urgently needs your support to navigate the complexities of the Rafah crossing and embark on this journey before his program begins in May 2024.
His accolades, such as Chevening, Said Foundation, Norwegian Quota scholarship, Swedish Institute, and Erasmus Mundus, represent individual achievements and the collective potential for change. Today, faced with limited options, Majed holds onto hope for personal achievement and his profound impact on restoring Gaza's healthcare system.
Majed's decision to pursue a PhD in Canada is not just about personal growth; it's a step toward acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to effect change on a broader scale. His mission is clear—to contribute significantly to the rebuilding of Gaza's healthcare and enhancing the Palestinian population's health.
Your support is a beacon of hope in this journey. Together, we can bridge the gap between Rafah and UBC, turning a dream into reality. Join us on this life-changing journey, and let's inspire positive change, not just in Majed's life but in the lives of countless others.
