Help the Malone Family: Supporting Dennis Malone

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

Myself and my partner Scott (Dennis’ cousin) and his friend Russell (who went to Eric Louw High School with Dennis in South Africa) are reaching out to share the heart-wrenching story of Dennis Malone and his family. We asking for your help in supporting Dennis and his family during this incredibly challenging time.

Years ago, Dennis suffered a life-changing injury in a diving accident in the Vaal River. The accident resulted in severe damage to his C5 and C6 vertebrae, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. As a quadriplegic, Dennis has very limited arm movement and virtually no use of his hands.

After the accident, Dennis spent five months in the hospital, including one month in rehabilitation. Sadly, his medical aid coverage ran out, forcing him to discontinue rehab and return home, where his parents did their best to care for him. Unfortunately, they lived in an area with no physiotherapy facilities, and without professional care, Dennis' condition worsened. He now has very limited mobility and is unable to operate a standard or electric wheelchair without specialized controls.

For nearly 30 years, Dennis' elderly parents have been his primary caregivers. Now in their seventies, they are struggling to provide the care he needs. His mother, who suffers from severe arthritis, relies on crutches or a wheelchair herself, while his father has endured four heart attacks, undergone triple bypass surgery, and recently suffered a stroke. His father can no longer walk or talk easily, making it increasingly difficult for them to lift and move Dennis.

Recently, the family faced another devastating blow. Dennis' older brother, who was preparing to care for him so their parents could move into a retirement village, passed away suddenly from a heart attack just three weeks ago.

As if this is not enough, the family were the victims of a home robbery a few weeks back where they lost most of their belongings and Dennis was beaten by the robbers.

Dennis' father was forced to let his pension policy lapse due to financial strain. The family is now in a dire situation, urgently needing funds for essential equipment, medical support and housing including a specialized wheelchair and a lift to help move Dennis in and out of bed.

Any support you can provide will be deeply appreciated as the Malone family faces these overwhelming challenges.
