The Baez Family
Donation protected
Hello my name is Karen McCord. I met the Baez family through an event at our church in 2013. At the time, their son Abel Jr. was ten and mom, Veronica, was pregnant with twin girls, Sofia and Camila. In the ten years that I’ve known them, they have become very special to our family. Abel Jr. became very active in our student ministry and went on 7 mission trips with our church youth group. Dad, Abel Sr., is one of the most honest, hardworking people I know. He supports his family and meets their every need and a few “wants” along the way. While taking care of his immediate family, he also helps support his extended family. Tragically, on May 20th, Abel Sr. was working on the roof of a covered patio and fell through some rafters that weren’t secured properly. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, a compound fracture to one wrist, and a fracture to the other. Both wrists had to be surgically fixed and part of Abel’s skull had to be removed due to swelling in the brain. He was in ICU for 3 weeks and is now on the head trauma floor of the hospital. Because Abel was considered a contract worker, he is not eligible for worker’s compensation. Abel does not have insurance and we are working with the hospital. However, their biggest need is inpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy along with some skilled nursing needs. His care at home would require more than Veronica can handle or is qualified for. She still has 10 year old twins under her care. Abel has so beautifully and selflessly cared for his family. When he is not working, there is no income. Abel Jr, at 20 years old is now trying to care for his family and provide for them. They have a sweet church community that is helping with basic needs, but Abel’s physical needs are a lot. Therapy will go a long way in restoring his body so that one day he will be able to work again. Without the proper therapy I fear he will not regain his potential. I hope you feel led to help this family. They have helped countless people and believe in paying it forward. I love them dearly! Sincerely, Karen
