Help for the Silva Family

I am Kathy Lee Alves, sister of Cathy Silva. I am asking for your help on behalf of my sister and her husband Casey. Casey is facing an extremely difficult diagnosis after recently suffering a cardiac arrest on November 18th during what was supposed to be routine pre-op appointment for shoulder surgery. It appeared as thought Casey was not going to recover from this as there was no signs of brain activity. After intensive treatment at several hospitals to try to stabilize him and regain brain function, he was transferred to Mass General Hospital. He is currently undergoing treatment at Mass General Hospital in the Neuro ICU. Here, he is beginning to make some small progress, such as opening his eyes occasionally, giving a smile to his wife, and moving his legs. He has had a tracheostomy placed to help him breathe, and has a feeding tube placed in his abdomen for nutrition. As you would expect from Casey, he is fighting with all his heart and spirit.

As you can imagine, this sudden trauma is taking an incredible toll emotionally and financially on the family. The most important people in Casey’s life are his wife and children. Casey’s wife, has been spending every available moment supporting Casey and caring for their kids. She has been unable to return to work during this unimaginably difficult time. As such, the sudden loss of two incomes is yet another unfair burden placed on this family during this time.

It is going to be a long and difficult road ahead of Casey and his family. We know they can weather the storm with all of us by their side. They are a strong and beautiful family, and I want us all to be there to help them feel strong when they may feel weak.

We can only imagine the strain this unexpected trauma has put on Casey and his family. Casey and his family are doing all they can to fight and recover every single day, and I am asking for your help in alleviating some of the financial burdens that come with trauma so they can focus all their efforts on his medical recovery.
