Help Bob with Medical Expenses

Firstly, I would like to start out by thanking everyone for taking the time to read this. Whether you are able to help or not, your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated.
Our father Bobby was a police officer for 22 years with several different departments including IMPD and Marion County Sherriff’s department, saved many lives, helped hundreds of people and changed countless lives. He loved his job, he was proud to put on his uniform every day and serve his community. Our father was forced to medically retire after he was injured while on duty, injuring his neck and shoulder. Unfortunately, the police department did not determine that his injury was sufficient for a full medical retirement. The police department refused him his full pension, he lost his life insurance and medical insurance. For the past five years our dad has been fighting to receive disability through the Social Security Administration and has been denied multiple times. Our mother and father have struggled financially for many years ever since he retired. 3 years ago, our father was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera, it is a rare type of blood cancer, that causes the bone marrow to produce too many red blood cells. Too many red blood cells cause the blood to thicken. Thicker blood does not flow normally through arteries or veins. Increased blood thickness and decreased blood flow causes an increased risk for blood clots, strokes, heart attacks and blockages in arteries in the lungs. He has to have blood transfusions every two weeks to keep the blood thinned out. This disease does not go away, there is no cure, nor is there much optimism for a cure, there is only treatment for the rest of his life. Recently in 2020 our family went through some very troubling times with our father and is only continuing to get worse, in June he went through an adrenal crisis and causing his body to shut down, after many trips to the ER and no answers it became very frustrating for our family watching our father suffer. Doctors would not see our father until he found a way to pay off bills. Unfortunately, due to the department’s decision to not honor his full medical retirement and take away his health insurance, he was forced to find a way to pay for all of this out of pocket, causing even more financial hardship.
In October, our father was diagnosed with a micro adenoma brain tumor located on his pituitary gland. Through many doctor visits and treatment, we have found a doctor who has finally found a treatment that will help our father. That’s the great news. The bad news is, insurance will not cover the treatments that this specialist has deemed will help him. Our family has come together and given everything that we have to make sure our dad is getting everything that he needs. Our family, especially our dad, we are not the type of people to ask for help. Our dad has 6 grandkids and we would love for him to be around long enough to watch them grow up. He still has a lot of life to live and many things he would love to accomplish. The doctor believes this treatment will help him live a longer and more fulfilling life.
Our dad has always been the type of person to give to others and never ask for anything in return. He has always stopped what he was doing when someone needed his help, gave a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen and a heart to love. He would give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it, our dad would give his last dollar because he would believe you needed It more than he did. Our family has lost contact with a lot of people but the last 4 years have been a struggle and a very trying time for our family.
I know times are tough for everyone right now, We am asking for any help that you can give to gather the money we need to help our dad get this treatment. We will be forever grateful for any help that you can give.
Thank you in advance for everyone’s thoughts, prayers, and help. May God bless each and every one of you.
