The Cassidy Family

Dan from Accrington was 23 years old and had just fully qualified as an electrician when he was diagnosed with the evil disease that is Leukemia. His wife Darcy had a successful childminding business and together they had the world at their feet. As with many other families, cancer stole this from them, they had to give up their careers which they worked so hard for and could no longer enjoy the things that we take for granted everyday.

Like most people in their early 20’s, life and critical illness insurance had not been considered and therefore was not in place.

If you have followed Dan’s story you will know that shortly after his diagnosis, the blood cancer caused him to suffer a brain haemorrhage and consequently he needed urgent surgery. He was put into an induced coma and although he got through this, upon coming out of it he was classed as disabled and unable return to work. Consequently, Darcy was forced to close her business to become Dan’s full time carer.

To watch them both have to go through this during what should have been such an amazing time in their lives and to see the many years of struggle and suffering that followed was heartbreaking for all who knew them.

All Dan wanted to do was work hard and provide for his family and it was taken away from him. He tried desperately to overcome the disease and also his disability. He fought to the very end to beat this and throughout these traumatic 7 years he remained the most positive, selfless, kind and loving person. He should never have had to endure this and lose his life at such a young age.

Dan also leaves his two beautiful twins behind, Dougie and Delilah. Anybody who had the honour of knowing Dan knew how much he adored his wife and children. Although we cannot bring Dan back or take away the pain of losing him we know that supporting Dan’s family will be the most wholesome way to pay our last respects to him.
