Dear caring friends and supporters,

It is not easy for me to ask for help, but I am doing it for my wonderful daughter, Tessa. She needs a power wheelchair, and I am hoping you can support us in this goal.

With your compassion, we can provide Tessa with the tools she needs to embrace independence, conquer limitations, and ensure her safety.

Tessa's unwavering determination and resilience have been inspiring. Being born with a mitochondrial condition (ONA Plus – extremely rare) has presented her with multiple health challenges, including blindness, chronic pain, and nerve damage. She struggles every day. However, Tessa's unyielding spirit has propelled her forward, pushing the boundaries of what is possible.

Tessa continuously dedicates herself to uplifting others; from advocating for her schoolmates, and supporting fundraisers for a disabled neighbor, to working with agencies as a passionate advocate for individuals with disabilities and assault victims.

Her achievements extend beyond her advocacy work. She lives independently and has successfully completed two different post-secondary programs, earning a place on the Dean's list.

Tessa has a thirst for exploration, the outdoors, and adventure. She loves and takes good care of her guide dog who is a source of comfort and safety. They enjoy long walks together and he is always by her side, helping her navigate the world. Tessa is also an adventurous person who has bungee jumped, zip lined, and fearlessly “sky walked” the top of the CN Tower.

Now, Tessa faces an urgent need for a new power wheelchair. Her current wheelchair, after 15 years of use, is no longer repairable. Additionally, during winter months, harsh conditions often cause her to get stranded in the snow. An all-terrain power wheelchair will give her the freedom to navigate without the constant fear of getting stuck in freezing temperatures. I am including a link to a video of her dying wheelchair.
