This is an update on Erin Smith with new details.

Thank you to everyone who has given. You are a true blessing.

Erin’s fight is not over yet. The injury she has is still bleeding internally. Healing is still going to take months, probably throughout the year of 2021. Dare to say we are all glad 2020 is coming to an end, and hoping, praying, that 2021 gets back to “normal”.

It won’t for Erin. This post could take an hour to write; going to try give you a short summary of current facts.


Accident was not her fault – guy ran a red light

·       Erin’s injuries put her in a Trauma 1 center and ICU. She lost consciousness, received a concussion, bruising, and what is known as a degloving.

·       Erin suffers from a closed degloving. Pictures are included. Please look it up for details. It is life threating in many cases

·       It was touch and go on if she was going to be able to keep the leg due to the damage. While there is still a chance of this happening even after these months past, each days lessens this risk.

·       She is starting to heal. Internal bleeding continues. Nerve damage is extensive, most likely permanent.

·       Her car is totaled, and there is no insurance to cover the cost of a replacement

·       Her insurance and the other driver’s insurance provided $200k. It is spent already, every cent going to medical and costs related to the accident

·       Funds available via health care insurance are not available anymore. The co-pays are still there.

·       The man is from CA. While he had insurance, he has no assets that will cover damages, so civil actions are not an option for relief. The car he was driving was a rental.

·       Erin will never be made whole, physically, financially, etc.

·       Erin will see nothing, zero funds from insurance or restitution.

·       Through the people that love and care for her, Erin has been able to make her bills through the end of December. January, she has nothing.

·       She cannot work with her employer until her doctor clears her. He has made it clear that this will not happen in the near future. Simply, they know her life is still at risk from this injury

Friends, I know this is the season for giving. Please take the time to give a little or a lot. With 1500 of us in giving $5.00 each would provide 2+ months of her daily needs – Rent, food, and bills.

Not going to lay out her life more than I have here. It is never easy asking for help. She needs it.
