The Gabe Meyer Preservation Project
Donation protected
The Pine Bluff School District has begun demolishing Gabe Meyer Elementary School, which was built in 1921. The board has given us permission to raise money to save the front wall, the facade, so we can have something to remember the school that hundreds of Pine Bluff citizens attended.
Shouldn't we commemorate the city's first school superintendent, Mr. Gabe Meyer? Shouldn't we avoid having this City block be an abandoned empty lot in the future?
This project is being handled through a nonprofit 501(C) so your donations will be deductible. Thanks to the Nelson Architectural Group, the drawings and plans for the facade are complete and await funding! The exact amount needed is still being considered. If we are not able to raise enough funds, your money will be returned to you. After the facade is preserved, the long term plan is to use the rest of the city block as a green-space such as a park or community garden. Paul Perdue, Ken Parsons, and Jim Lord at Bayou Steel Buildings are determined to make this happen. Please help by donating to this worthy cause.
