On Nov. 26, 2022, Victor Arciniega – my brother-in-law - was admitted to Loma Linda University Medical Center in Murrieta with severe chest pain and difficulty breathing. He was diagnosed with pneumonia in his left lung and a severe, systemic bacterial infection. He was given intravenous antibiotics and pain medication and attempts were made to drain the fluid from his lung. After unsuccessfully attempting to remove the fluid from his lung through his airway, surgery was done to insert tubes through his side to drain the lung. During surgery, it was discovered that part of his lung was necrotic and had to be removed. He was diagnosed with “Valley Fever” (Coccidioidomycosis) – a potentially fatal fungal infection - and was treated with anti-fungal medication. The anti-fungal medication has severe side effects including fever, tremors and hallucinations. He was released from the hospital on Dec. 15, but needs continued in-home medical treatment including intravenous antibiotics and intravenous anti-fungal medications. He is expected to survive but will have a long and difficult recovery. He is the sole breadwinner for a household of 5 and will not be able to work for some time. He has medical insurance but no means to replace his lost income. Victor is one of the most hard-working and generous people I know, always willing to lend a hand to whoever he can including family, friends or strangers. Please find it in your heart to help Victor, his wife Martha and their children Fabian, Daniel, Anthony and Jasmin in this difficult time. Your financial support as well as your thoughts and prayers will be greatly appreciated. Cherish your loved ones this Holiday Season and God Bless.
