Who’s ready to make a difference?

For those who don’t know me; I’m a born and raised Calgarian who has been with the Calgary Fire Department for the last 14 years. This past May, I was diagnosed with a massive, and aggressive, soft tissue sarcoma. By the grace of God and with the help of some incredible surgeons and medical professionals, I am still here. I’ve been given a second chance and intend to make the most of it! This is where you come in….

Through some friends in the fire department, I have been connected with 3 year old, little Sawyer, and we have a couple things in common; He loves firefighters, and sadly, also has an aggressive soft tissue sarcoma. Incredibly, the same surgeon that saved my life is part of the amazing team working to help him…. what a small world. This is his second battle with this insidious disease and I feel compelled to my deepest core to help this little guy and his family as much as I can. As a parent of young children myself, this situation is incomprehensible. In an effort to do my part, some friends and I are embarking on a fitness challenge on March 16-18th. We will be doing the Goggins challenge which is to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. This will be difficult and painful for me, as I still consider myself in recovery, but it pales in comparison to the challenges Sawyer is facing. There are no flashy draw prizes or tax receipts, just an opportunity to make an immediate difference for a family going through the unimaginable. One of my favourite sayings is “if you have the ability to give back, you have an obligation to do so.” I have the ability to use my body and message to help this family out. I can’t do this on my own and would love for you to join me on #teamSawyer.
