Angela CTEPH BPA Surgeries at UCSD

Donation protected
My name is Darcy Johnson and I’m a good friend of Angela. Angela and I met over 15 years ago as nursing school students. Spending hours and days studying with Angela, I experienced a God-believing, compassionate, empathetic, smart, and loving human being.  I’ve personally witnessed her kindness given to her friends and to those she only recently met. Angela is like your childhood best friend – confidant, caring and there when you need her. Today, it’s my time to give back to my friend Angela and ask for your help and support.

Since 2018, Angela experienced multiple health struggles. Her most current condition, CTEPH, requires travel to University of San Diego (UCSD) for multiple surgical procedures. The medical procedures and associated expenses are the reason for the GoFundMe.

Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension or CTEPH, is a condition caused by pulmonary blood clots that didn’t dissolve. CTEPH is considered a terminal illness unless treated by one of two types of surgical procedures. Angela is scheduled for the less invasive procedure, balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) instead of the more dangerous PTE, pulmonary thromboendarterectomy. Fortunately, the position and size of the clots afford the opportunity for the BPA.

In May 2018, multiple blood clots infiltrated Angela’s lungs. After months of treatment, the clots didn’t clear. After more aggressive treatment and Angela’s stubborn will for a full recovery and belief in the Lord, the clots were unresolved. Her symptoms progressed and she continues to need more oxygen and struggles with shortness of breath for everyday tasks like laundry, cooking and not to mention grocery shopping, sleeping and dreaded stairs.

Angela needs a minimum of 6 surgical procedures to improve her symptoms and hopefully eliminate the blockages. The doctors’ plan calls for 3 separate trips to UCSD staying 2 weeks each visit. Each 2 weeks trip including airfare, hotel, food and transportation will cost around $4500 or $13,500 for all 6 procedures.

Angela means the world to me and I’d do anything for her and that’s why I want to help raise this money for her trips to San Diego. Since the blood clots in May 2018, Angela’s family continues to face financial and health challenges. She’s been hospitalized 3 times for at least 5 days each time on top of all the specialists, the multitude of tests and the new medications. If all the medical isn’t enough, she and her son were in a rollover auto accident in August 2019. The accident was caused by the individual who ran the stop sign and t-boned the car. Fortunately, the injuries didn’t involve broken bones or worse. They are almost recovered but the car is totaled.
