My name is Carolina, on April 9 2017 I had an accident while participating in a half IronMan. I fell from my bike and fractured my femur. Even though my accident requiered an emergency surgery, a few days after, a good friend of mine had a worse accident on his bike in Colombia.  Daniel is a husband, a father, a brother, a son but mostly an awesome ATHLETE who is giving his 100% to be able to walk again and ride his bike. Daniel is in Colombia now, and he needs to go to therapy every day in order to move his body again. He is determined, as I am, to go back eventually to his normal routine and his training.  Let us support him and his family, outside of our prayers, with whatever we can give. With financial assistance, Daniel and his family can focus on his rehab and getting healthy and strong again.  I will be assisting the family with this campaign and transfering the money for his rehab in Colombia.  You can read Daniel's story below, either in English or Spanish. Please help me to not only raise money for his rehab but to pray for his full recovery. Thank you!

Last April 13th our beloved Daniel had a terrible bike accident while he was riding down from el Puerto de La Cuchilla, the highest point on the route that takes from Bogotá to el Valle del Guavio, Colombia, over 3000m above sea level . The crash left him instantly paralized from the neck down and had to withstand several hours on the harsh weather conditions. Luckily, he was rescued by a bus driver who was passing by and taken to a rural hospital where he received basic care and waited for an ambulance to be taken to the closest hospital, still outside Bogotá. There, first CT Scans revealed traces of complete non-displaced spinal fractures which required him to be taken for emergency surgery for vertebral decompression, bone grafting and intersomatic arthrodesis through the anterior cervical path on another Hospital, Clínica Fundación La Fe in Bogotá, for his best chance of regaining movement. The final diagnosis was spinal trauma, post-traumatic hernia C6-C7, post-traumatic acute myelopathy and bronchoaspiration pneumonia, due to the time he had to spent in the rain.

After several weeks battling in the intensive care unit, Daniel is finally home and is experiencing an outstanding recovery. He has regained movement in his arms and hands, has improved trunk support and has been regaining sensitivity and force in his legs. Doctors find him positive and upbeat, which is rare in patients with this kind of injury… However, Daniel´s road ahead is long and expensive. He needs to work hard everyday at the Mobility Group, a Rehab Center with State of the Art Technology in Colombia; Then, it would be really awesome if we could help him recover without the additional burden of finantial need.

Daniel is loving husband and father of three spectacular children, exemplary brother and son, and friend without equal, recognized by all for his loyalty, discipline, selflessness and great sense of humor. He is absolutely determined to fully heal his body and spirit. Let us support him and his family, outside of our prayers, with whatever we can give.   With financial assistance, Daniel and his family can focus on his rehab and getting healthy and strong.
