Angel of Hope for Covington County

Grieving grandparents Carol and David Moore want to erect an Angel of Hope and Memorial Garden in Andalusia, AL. They have formed The Angel of Hope for Covington County Advisory Committee. The Moores lost their grandson, John David Stroud, on June 23, 2021. After visiting Angel of Hope memorial gardens in LaGrange, GA, and Dothan AL, they decided to bring one to Andalusia. In this place, parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends could find comfort, knowing their loved ones would not be forgotten. They enlisted the help of family, friends, and other community members who have lost children, grandchildren, and siblings.

 

The group is working with the City of Andalusia to create an area in Robinson Park that will be a place of reflection and remembrance for grieving parents and others touched by the loss of a child of any age, bringing healing and hope to everyone.

 

The costs for the project include the bronze angel, a pedestal, a walking path, landscaping, lighting, and a fence surrounding the area. The committee will hold a special candlelight ceremony every December 6th for people who have lost children and those seeking to comfort them.

 

The Angel of Hope has its beginnings in Salt Lake City, Utah, and exists to keep alive the memories of deceased children. The original “Christmas Box Angel” in Salt Lake City got her name from a fictional story, “The Christmas Box,” by Richard Paul Evans. Mr. Evans erected the first “Angel of Hope” in response to requests by grieving parents. It was dedicated on December 56, 1994. Since that time, his gift to those parents has been duplicated in more than 120 other areas in the United States, Canada and Japan. The bronze angels at each site are identical.
