On February 22, 2021, my husband unexpectedly lost his father, my innocent babies lost their papaw, and my mother-in-law lost her best friend of 36 years.
The grief has been overwhelming, and often times unbearable. How unfair. How unexpected. Personally, the shock just recently started to fade and I am overcome with sadness instead of disbelief. Scott and I loved to pick on each other, play jokes, poke the bear. His opinions were strong and often conflicted with mine but we made it work and maybe even learned from each other a time or two. I wish I would’ve told him that he was like a second father to me and how much I loved him. How much I’ll miss him. Of course it’s cliche, but we could all use the reminder - never miss an opportunity to tell your loved ones what they mean to you. How special they are and why.
Navigating this with Addi has been especially hard. She knows Scott’s in Heaven. “Maybe Jesus will fix him”, she says. “I wish He could”, I reply.
Against Tyler’s wishes, I have set up a go fund me for Kim. This is not how she pictured her life going. Growing old with the one she loves, with her person, was just ripped away from her. She has already expressed financial concerns amongst her grief. We ask that in lieu of flowers, you consider donating to this instead. The harsh reality of our lives is that the bills don’t stop just because your heart is broken.
