Dear friends and family,
The first week of July, my sister Crystal Gibson became very ill. She was experiencing a slew of symptoms involving many organ systems such as cardiac, gastrointestinal, neurological and pulmonary issues. She was unable to eat and drink. She lost over 30lbs in six weeks (Crystal is already a lean individual and should not be experiencing weight loss). The effects of her symptoms quickly debilitated my sister. She was taken to multiple hospital emergency departments only to be informed her blood work appeared normal, and they could not treat her. Not one hospital would admit her even though she could barely walk. In addition, as strange as this sounds, Crystal’s primary care provider would not refer her to a specialist since her blood work was normal. An out-of-network walk-in clinic that administered IV fluids for dehydration was the only treatment provided. Crystal returned home discouraged, and her health continued to worsen. Family members flew to Texas to care for her and assist in finding treatment and diagnosis.
On Sunday, August 21st, in a desperate last attempt for medical treatment, Crystal was taken to the Texas Health Harris Methodist Emergency Room and was finally admitted to the hospital. The physicians diagnosed her with GERD, Salmonella, and a Hiatal hernia and began treatment. It is uncertain if these conditions are the only cause of her illness. Additional testing is being performed to rule out another prognosis.
Due to her illness, Crystal has been unable to work and is incurring medical debt. Although Crystal does have insurance, the plan is limited and in-network providers are few. If necessary and her condition does not improve, we are looking into testing and treatment outside of Texas. We will do whatever is required to find Crystal care so she can be healthy and enjoy her life again.
Crystal is a ray of sunshine who thinks of others rather than herself. She insists on giving instead of receiving and has helped many throughout her life. Seeing my sister this way is heartbreaking. As Crystal’s family, we ask for your prayers and positive energy to shine a healing light on Crystal and strengthen her. We humbly request any financial assistance you can provide. A few dollars can make a difference toward her medical deductibles, out-of-pocket maximum and personal bills while she could not work in the hospital. Having monetary assistance will relieve the financial burden Crystal is currently feeling and, more importantly, allow her to focus on her health.
Thank you, everyone, for your support and prayers during this difficult time.
