My brother-in-law Chris suffered cardiac arrest on March 8, 2023, at 45 years of age. After being on life support for over 24 hours, he was declared brain dead at 9:05 AM on March 10, 2023. My sister Abigail lost her spouse, the love of her life, and her best friend at the young age of 34. Over the last two years Abigail was diagnosed with breast cancer, undergone a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, as well as removal of her thyroid. She is still facing reconstructive surgery and a hysterectomy in the near future, as well as some extensive oral surgery. Chris was a loving and supportive husband and was always there for her throughout her medical struggles. Although Abigail is employed, her health insurance was through her husband’s employer, which offered much better benefits at a lower out-of-pocket cost. She lives in the Austin area and, although she and Chris have many friends, she has no family members who live nearby. Abigail could really use some financial support to cover the costs of the unexpected funeral arrangements, cover the loss of income of the primary income provider, and to keep up with bills and help defray medical costs she knows are looming in the near future.
