Help Phoenix rise from the ashes

Hello, fellow animal lovers. My name is Amanda Moffett. At the end of February this year, my dear friend learned of a young dog in a dangerous situation. She, being a German Shepherd lover with extensive experience with the breed, immediately got involved. After being abandoned at a boarding kennel in Wakefield, New Hampshire, this pup was held in an outdoor pen without food for two months. As you can see from the cover photo, he was skin and bones and days away from death. Despite his poor health he wagged his tail and allowed us to lift him into the car. He had no name so we called him Phoenix. German Shepherds do not do well in shelters, so my friend, an elder woman with physical limitations, selflessly decided to bring him in her home. Initially, he struggled to settle due to being so young, socially neglected, and in survival mode from the extensive starvation. Luckily, his care taker has much skill and patience, and, despite the many sleepless nights, Phoenix is settling down, feeling safe, and less frantic. He is learning manners and regaining his health. He is loving, playful, and super-intelligent. On his journey to recovery and, ultimately, his forever home, Phoenix is in need of two surgeries. He has an abdominal hernia and to be neutered he requires an internal surgery due to an undescended testicle. His keeper is understandably struggling to keep up with the cost of his food and veterinary care. We are hoping to raise $1200- the cost of the surgery and expenses. Thank you for helping Phoenix rise from the ashes!
