IVF Help

It is no secret that we have endured some pretty awful luck in our quest to grow our family. As with most IVF journeys, there have been plenty of pitfalls, and heartache. Our journey feels like it has been a long string of bad luck, if we are honest and this is not changing anytime soon, it would seem.

In 2022, our clinic (at the time) noted I had a cyst on my right ovary. However they were not willing to do anything about it, telling me that these cysts were normal and that it would probably go away on its own. However, when I woke up from egg collection, I was dismayed to learn that they had not been able to retrieve all the eggs from the right ovary due to the cyst.

When I had my next round of IVF in early 2023, they noted that the cyst was still there, and was around 9cm by 4cm. At this point, we made several requests to have something done about the cyst, but we were told that since is was not causing any paint, and since it was "too small", the clinic were not prepared to remove it. After egg collection, I learned they had drained it slightly during the collection, to retrieve an egg, however once again, there were other follicles that were left uncollected, as the risk of bursting the cyst was too great. Once again, I was told the cyst would go away on its own.

Fast forward to July 2024, we decided for our last IVF round, we were going to do things differently, and so we found ourselves at IVF Serum, in Athens. At my first baseline scan, the Dr said " you have a large cyst on your ovary" and his jaw nearly dropped to the floor when I told him it had been there since 2022. We were told the cyst needed treatment before we undergo IVF as the ovary could not be seen at all. So I was put on the contraceptive pill for two months, hoping that by cutting off the hormones, the cyst would finally go away on its own.

Unfortunately, we had no such luck, and this week I found out that while the cyst has shrunk (its now 6.7 cm by 3.7cm!) that the only option for us going forward, is to have the cyst removed through a laparoscopic surgery, which will be an additional £4000. This is an expense we were not anticipating, but we can not give up when we are so close. So at the request of some friends, who wanted to help us out, I have started this go fund me page.

If you have made it this far down, thank you for taking the time to read why I have set up the page, and what it will go towards. If you have donated, thank you, thank you, thank you!
