Intubation boxes for Frontline workers
Donation protected
SUMMARY:
Help front line medical workers reduce their exposure to COVID-19 by donating funds to supply hospitals with COVID Boxes.
The COVID Box is protective equipment used by medical workers when inserting breathing tubes, the highest risk procedure where they are likely to be exposed to the virus.
Each box costs approximately $210 CAD to manufacture + shipping.
This fundraiser is to cover the cost of manufacturing and delivering one to two boxes for all frontline workers who have expressed interest in the box (locally, nationally and internationally)
BACKGROUND:
The design of this intubation box was inspired by Dr. Hsien Yung Lai in Taiwan. He designed the box for dealing with the challenge of safely intubating patients with COVID-19. He open-sourced the design for other doctors to use globally.
A group of volunteer doctors and engineers in Toronto, Canada have modified the design for the North American environment. The full details of the box (including assembly, how to make your own and cleaning) can be found here .
We recognize that some hospitals can afford to order and pay for these boxes, while other hospitals are unable to. After delivery of the initial ones, our next goal is to cover hospitals that are unable to allocate funding for the boxes with the ultimate goal of providing it free of charge to all hospitals.
We are a team of volunteers. All money raised here will go to the manufacturers for the purchase of raw materials and labour or towards shipping the boxes. If the funds raised exceed those costs, the remaining funds will be donated back to the hospitals who have made purchases of the box.
Alternatively if you can donate raw materials, manufacturing capabilities or discounted shipping please reach out to us here: [email redacted]
Thank you and please be safe.
