A Fresh Start for Stacey Greene
Donation protected
More than 25 years ago I had the good fortune to become friends with Stacey Greene, one of the kindest, most generous, loving and radiant people I have known.
I am organizing this campaign because right now Stacey needs some help.
As all of us come to know sooner or later, in spite of our best intentions and planning, life throws curveballs. Unexpected events, good or bad, can dramatically redirect our paths.
In December 2015, Stacey’s life took a shocking and devastating turn. She discovered that her husband and father of her children, Ernie Pentland, had committed a horrendous crime. He revealed himself to be a true sociopath; a serial liar with dark secrets. Stacey has since been consumed with the difficult emotional, financial, and legal work of dealing with the calamitous consequences of his behavior.
I hope you will join me in coming together to support Stacey as she rebuilds her life to provide a safe, stable, loving home for her children.
A Little Background
Stacey is no stranger to hard work. In 2009 she was immersed in the difficult challenge of healing and recovery when she met Ernie at a spiritual recovery meeting. Through recovery she had developed a wonderful support system - people who understood the commitment, humility, vulnerability and strength required to succeed. They were like family, and she trusted Ernie as one of them. She was getting healthy, both physically and emotionally. The future looked promising.
When she first met Ernie there were no signs of what would come. He was charming and thoughtful. Her friends and family also trusted him, and took him into their affections. Everyone celebrated when Stacey and Ernie were married and soon after welcomed a son, Maddux. Everything seemed to be going well. Then, one day in December 2015 , when Stacey’s youngest son Hudson had just had his first birthday, came a monster of a life curveball.
Things Went Terribly Wrong
To her utter shock and disbelief Ernie was arrested. He was accused and eventually convicted of planning and executing the murder of her dear friend Phillip Liberty for financial gain. He had stolen checks and forged his name. He had also endangered the life of Phillip's 2-year-old grandson, Bentley. Our hearts break for Phillip and his family.
According to experts, most sociopaths live their lives relatively undetected. They are predators, expert at picking out the most trusting, decent person in the room. Trusting and decent - that’s Stacey; and Ernie used her trust to manipulate her.
As events progressed Stacey would learn that little of what she believed about Ernie and their life together had been true. He claimed to be attending St Mary’s Law School in San Antonio. Although he left the house every morning to make the drive - he was never a student there. He was also serving 10 years probation for a bank robbery charge Stacey knew nothing about. In addition she discovered he had taken all of the money from her 401K and owed $100,000 to the IRS. She also learned that at the time of his arrest he was trying to take out a $500,000 insurance policy on her life. She realizes now that she is lucky to be alive.
In December 2017 Stacey took the witness stand at Ernie’s trial for capital murder. The trial lasted 8 days. It took the jury just 3 hours to convict him. He is currently serving a prison term of life without parole.
The Situation Now
Although Ernie Pentland is physically gone from their lives, the ramifications of his crime and his betrayal continue for Stacey and her children. A true narcissistic sociopath, his efforts to control and manipulate her from prison are ongoing. He recently lost his final chance to appeal his conviction, but he continues to contest their divorce and fights to maintain his parental rights. Stacey must hire legal representation to counter his every maneuver.
Stacey is one of so many in the US who are living paycheck to paycheck. In addition to putting food on the table, providing for her sons, paying for healthcare, and keeping a roof over their heads, there are ongoing legal fees to pay and the money owed to the IRS.
What Stacey Needs
Stacey needs to fight to protect herself and her boys by legally severing Ernie’s parental rights. She knows he is a dangerous psychopath who will never stop trying to manipulate and harass her through the courts. She will need at least $15,000 to pay her attorney, so that is our fundraising goal. All of the money raised will be used to pay legal expenses.
We all need help sometime. This is Stacey’s time. She is a strong person. She works hard, she rises to the challenges. But it’s a lot. We can ease her way. Her burden will be lighter and her path easier with the help of her friends and community. Let's share a little joy, a little relief, some friendship and kindness.
I know this is a difficult time for many. Please know that a donation of even $5 will make a difference.
Thank you in advance for supporting a brighter future for Stacey, Maddox and Hudson.
