AAPI Journalists Therapy Relief Fund

Since 2020, there's been an overwhelming increase in hate crimes targeting Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. Between March 19, 2020 to February 28, 2021 Stop AAPI Hate  received 3,795 incident reports from within all 50 states detailing instances of verbal abuse, shunning, physical violence, civil rights violations, and online harassment. 

As we saw with Black Lives Matter this past summer, the journalism industry is calling on the most vulnerable to share their stories and provide on-the-ground reporting offering little financial compensation or emotional support in exchange for labor. 

This campaign, created in partnership with AAJA , will secure AAPI journalists with funding for mental wellness resources needed to process trauma resulting from both their work in the media industry and their daily lives. Funding will be distributed as it comes in starting after the first $2000 is raised. The initial goal is set for $35,000, but will be increased upon fulfillment.

Grantees can use the funds at their discretion whether that be to pay for their current therapist or afford psychiatric medication or to start therapy. Journalists with and without insurance coverage can apply. 

This fund is conducted in partnership with AAJA however, journalists do not have to be members of AAJA to apply. To speed up withdrawals, the funds will be initially withdrawn and distributed to and from my personal account. 100% of funds raised will go to the applicants to this campaign. The ownership will eventually be transferred to AAJA and processed for their account.
