Support Growing Asian Community in Harlem

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Eva Chan. I am the co-founder of Upper Manhattan Asian American Alliance. Currently I am a member of the Manhattan Community Board for district 11 in East Harlem.

In the wake of a vicious attack of Harlem's Asian senior Yao Pan Ma, a few Harlem residents formed a grass root organization to support our seniors where needed.  It is a little known fact that 8% of the population East Harlem are Asians. Many of them are seniors with low income and little language skills.

UMAAA's mission is to build a more vibrant Asian community in Harlem and to improve cross cultural understanding amongst different racial groups. We hold a regular meeting where residents, community organizations and elected officials meet to discuss how to do more for the growing Asian population in Harlem. We help to advocate for more social services for the Asian seniors and we recruit volunteers who can assist our local community organizations in their work with Asian seniors.  All volunteers are welcome and especially in high-demand are bilingual Chinese speakers who are needed to assist in special events, translation and outreach efforts.

When we receive donations, we will distribute Asian grocery and meals or hold events for  the seniors in Harlem. See our events on our instagram and follow us on twitter .
