AHAG Campsites

AHAG has negotiated an agreement with the Jefferson County Fair Board and management! The group won't have to move every ten days this year, and will get a chance to coalesce and support each other!
An eleven point plan allows for a group of 10 people to rent 5 spaces at the county fairgrounds campground beginning on April 1. A cooperative group of campers supported in part by the QUUF Affordable Housing Action Group and other local agencies will create a structured community on designated campsites.
During a one month trial period, a liaison from the group and from the campground will work to resolve any problems that may develop at the campground location. The impact and effectiveness of this plan will be evaluated within the month and the arrangement may be extended until the end of June.
Each of the campers has completed an agreement stating in part, "I am interested in living in a cooperative tent village with a small group of other people, including sharing meal preparation and clean-up, food, chores and other resources, including contributing to expenses if I have a source of income."
The agreement includes 5 designated sites for $1400/month for a total of 3 months. This is $4200 for direct housing costs--or $9/day campsite.
COAST and OlyCap are providing tents and sleeping bags for the campers. Several community agencies have pledged to support the effort within their areas of expertise, including Jefferson Mental Health, the Port Townsend Police Department Homeless Liaison, and the Sheriff's Department. With this arrangement, it is anticipated that the experience will be positive for both the county fairgrounds and for those participating as campers
In addition to monetary items, we would like to have a screen tent and a 6 person supply tent to use for the campsites. It worked well last year to have a central informational and supply location.
