ATX Cyclist needs help after Intentional Hit & Run
Donation protected
Hi, I was the victim of an intentional hit and run by a man driving a white two-door coupe, in Austin, TX on 3/30 at 8:24 PM, as shown in the attached video.
There was nothing accidental about this excuse of a man’s behavior. He harassed me for a half mile, shifted to the far left lane as soon as it became a two lane road, and slowed his speed until I was alongside him in the right lane. At this point, he matched my speed, screamed obscenities at me, and threatened me. I chose not to engage with him as I feared what he might do to me. Instead, he slowed his speed further, angled his vehicle, and then accelerated into me, not once hitting his brakes. He then drove off, unwilling to face the consequences of his actions.
I had blinking headlights and taillights. I had reflectors on my bicycle. I was in a well-lit and low-speed area. I was as close to the curb as I possibly could be. He made active threats against me and left me no opportunity to remove myself from the situation. This was not an accident, this was attempted manslaughter with a vehicle. I could have had a spotlight on me, and this coward would have still hit me.
I’ve been able to come away from this incident without any broken bones, but I have suffered significant soft tissue injuries and road rash, both of which impede my ability to walk normally. I was training for the 2022 Cap Tex Triathlon and as a result of this assault, that goal has been robbed. I have neither a healthy body or bicycle, as it’s completely totaled.
I’m creating this GoFundMe as I’m incurring countless medical expenses and replacement funds for a new bicycle once I’m back on my feet. I don’t know who did this to me or why they lacked the ability to see me for what I am; a son, a brother, a friend, and a fellow human being. As of right now, this criminal has not been found, leaving me to suffer the consequences of his decision without any financial aid. If you could please help out, I would greatly appreciate it as I'm struggling at the moment.
Austin Police Department is currently working the case to put this scumbag behind bars.
