HELP SUPPORT AARON RASMUSSEN'S MEDICAL NEEDS!
As many of you know, our brother Aaron has needed extensive medical care recently related to an injury he sustained to his esophagus many years ago. The expenses already accrued, and those about to be added, are reaching a level where support from Aaron's community of friends and family is greatly needed.
Briefly, here is the story: At age one Aaron swallowed a corrosive chemical called lye which severely damaged his esophagus. This caused scarring and swallowing difficulties, resulting in Aaron having to endure dozens of medical procedures throughout his early childhood. When those procedures were no longer adequate to keep his damaged esophagus open, he underwent surgery (age 8) to replace the esophagus with part of his stomach. Although eating enough to maintain a healthy weight has been a lifelong challenge, Aaron did very well until a couple of years ago when, once again, his esophagus began to close up and eating became more difficult. In January of this year the damaged tissue ruptured. Early treatments failed, and eventually this part of the esophagus died, leaving a cavity where the esophagus should be. Aaron is now receiving treatment in Seattle, where his world-class surgeon will use state of the art techniques to help him "grow" a new esophagus. Needless to say, the associated expenses (medical costs and loss of income) are substantial. Aaron's unpaid medical bills so far are nearing $10,000, and he is now heading into the most intensive period of treatment. In addition, he has exausted his available medical leave benefit. There is no predictable end date on how long it will take for Aaron to heal and return to work.
Please consider helping Aaron through this crisis period through your prayers and to whatever financial extent you are able. Our fundraising goal is based on the hope of speedy healing and return to work for Aaron. We will be posting periodic updates so that you can follow his progress.
Thank you and God bless!
