Vet Bill Assistance for Ahimsa Microsanctuary

We have had 4 bird emergencies and 1 dog emergency over the past 2 months. We found an avian specialist in Maple Valley 2 hours away. Due to multiple trips to the vet, I spent a lot of money on gas and missed several days of work. We also accumulated just over $5500 in Vet Bills over the past few months.
- Action was found sick the day before Thanksgiving 2022 and has just finished multiple antibiotics for several bacterial infections. Luckily the rest of his flock have shown no symptoms. X-rays show a spine deformation which has caused paralysis on his left side but recently his organs began to shut down so we had him humanely euthanized at the vet.
- Anybody was found lethargic on Thanksgiving Day 2022. An emergency vet visit showed no obvious signs of trauma or health issues and he was sent home with antibiotics. He passed away a few days later. His flockmates have shown no symptoms of illness.
- Ginger began displaying broody egg-laying behavior late November and became egg-bound shortly after. She spent 5 days at the hospital in hopes they could help move the egg down, and the doctor decided to go in to surgically remove it on 12/5 and she passed away during surgery. Her partner Theo misses her terribly but was able to see her body to say goodbye.
- Rainbow was also having reproductive issues, resulting in a prolapsed vent. Repeated trips to the vet 2 hours away to attach “stay sutures” failed to keep the vent inside. Finally, after staying at the vet for a week, it remained in place and she is now done with her medications and will continue monthly hormone injections to halt egg production.
- Peanut was suffering from respiratory issues for a few days. After a visit to the ER Vet, an ultrasound showed that he was in advanced heart failure and his diagnosis was grave. We chose to have him humanely euthanized and are awaiting his ashes.
- Rita is dealing with liver issues again. She had 1/5 of her liver removed along with a huge benign tumor a few years ago but her bloodwork is showing elevated liver numbers again so we will be scheduling an ultrasound and more bloodwork.
