Autism service dogs for Alex & Max

My name is Elizabeth Fiedler Mueller and I am the proud mother of two amazing boys, Alexander and Maxwell. Both of whom are on the Autism spectrum.
Alexander is a compassionate, intelligent, respectful 17 year old with a profound sense of moral integrity. Alexander has overcome many obstacles in his life...a testament to his strength, drive, work ethic, and perseverance. His goals are to graduate from high school and become an independent, productive, responsible member of his community and society. The obstacles that remain are complications in his daily life due to autism, sensory issues, severe anxiety, depression, and fear. For a time, Alexander had a German Shepard. During this time I watched my son blossom. He began doing things he was previously unable to do. He went out into the community, feeling safe and secure. With his companion by his side he walked to the store, the library, and to his nanas house. ALexander began giving and accepting affection from his dog. He finally had a best friend. He gained confidence and the quality of his life improved in amazing ways. When he lost his dog...all the progress was lost with him. It was heartbreaking to witness.
We have located a German Shepard autism service dog at a community service dog training center. This dog would not only be trained for service for autism. She would also be trained to meet Alexander's specific needs and remove the obstacles that stand in his way of obtaining his goals of independence and service. The service dog will be trained to provide pressure therapy, calm anxiety, interrupt attempts of self harm, and make Alexander feel safe. She will accompany him out in the community. She will provide companionship and affection that he can accept an reciprocate. Alexander will have the quality of life he wants, works so hard for, and deserves to have.
Maxwell is an energetic, intelligent, happy 5 year old boy. He loves space rockets, planets, insects, dinosaurs, and his bubby. He is considered non verbal, due to a lack of expressive speech and limited spontaneous speech. He communicates with pictures, memorized phrases, and body language. It is frustrating to Maxwell when he is not understood, when he doesn't have the words to express need and want, and that causes meltdowns and self injury as well as injury to others if he can find no other way. He tries so hard. He can name all the planet's in the solar system but cannot tell me if he doesn't feel good or where it hurts. Maxwell has sensory issues. He is overwhelmed by bright light, certain sounds, and behavior of others. He needs a lot of pressure to calm, to sleep, to focus. In seeking this pressure he, at times, has hurt himself and others. Maxwell has no sense of danger and has very limited awareness of his surroundings, such as cars, strangers, heights. He is a wanderer, He sleeps between 2 - 4 hours a night. Maxwell also has seizures. He requires 24/7 supervision. He is also in need of a service dog. The autism training center has a retriever for Maxwell.
Maxwell's dog would be trained for autism and also his unique needs. His service companion will be able to detect seizures, provide pressure, keep him from hurting himself and others. He will also be able to block him from danger, keep him from wandering off and track him should he get away from me. Maxwell's service dog will also sleep and wake with him...Helping me provide the supervision Maxwell requires.
It is amazing what these service companions can do...and how they can provide my boys with so much...that I alone cannot.
It is hard to ask for help...especially financial support. But I truly believe that these autism service dogs will give my boys the quality of life they deserve...and I cannot provide that on my own. Both dogs require deposits to start the process and then payment. The amount listed is the total cost of both dogs, which includes base, autism ,and specific need training, ongoing training as the boys needs change, and guarantee of all training. The cost also includes all of our training classes, healthcare, and advocacy. I am very grateful for your help. No words can sufficiently express such. Thank you.
