2018 Mission Trip to Kenya

In June, Kimberly and I are traveling to Kenya for a mission trip. This will be my first time ever serving on a mission trip. It will be Kimberly’s 8th trip, but her 6th time to Kenya. I have heard her passion about Kenya and the beautiful people she has met while in country. I can’t wait to see and feel it myself. While in Kenya, our mission trip will be focused on education. We plan to visit 2 communities. In the first community of Karima, we will attend a graduation celebration. (Great story!) Back in 2011, while visiting there, Kimberly’s team saw the students had never had their own books (imagine one book for your whole grade students), but were expected to know the material to pass the state exam in order to be promoted to secondary school. FYI - no student had ever gone beyond 8th grade. Over these past 8 years the school has received the donated books for every student and to date more than 600 students have graduated. This changes their lives and the community. Our second community, Kahuria, had just completed the building of their second classroom last summer while Kimberly was there and are also in similar need of textbooks and educational assistance . We will spend 5 days alongside the teachers, students and parents teaching them subjects of importance to them.
