All Hands on Deck to Lift Up Hannah and Katherine
Donation protected
Local girl, Hannah Berryan, was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in a full medical crisis.
This is her story.
Who are Hannah and Katherine Berryan?
They are a local Woodstock family. A small family. Just a single mom and her kid.
7 years ago Hannah was a vivacious teenager, traveling down to NYC for modeling shoots and enjoying country music concerts with friends. She babysat for a lot of local families and looked forward to high school graduation from Onteora.
Katherine, her mom, was a local entrepreneur who owned her own landscaping business Black River Landscaping for 20 years before turning to a more single parent friendly career at River Rock Spa.
Life was good. Life was simple. Life was beautiful.
Until an uninsured driver ran 16 year old Hannah down in a parking lot while texting on his phone.
What happened next is the stuff of every parents worst nightmare. The phone call from first responders. The rush to meet your possibly dying child at the hospital.
The days and weeks and months of not knowing if your beautiful, smart, funny daughter would wake up? Would live? Would ever be the same?
Hannah did wake up. And Hannah did live. But Hannah is not the same. She still has many of her personalty traits. She's kind. She's funny. A bit of a wise ass. And she's a fighter.
However, Hannah now struggles with Traumatic Brain Injury which manifests in a myriad of complicated and overlapping issues that make the life she was primed to have untenable.
Her mother, Katherine, has had to step in where our medical system has failed . Caring for Hannah is a full time job, leaving Katherine, the single parent, as the full time caregiver. There is no space or time left for the careers she had to leave behind. But if the choice is your kid or your job what are you going to choose?
It has been a long exhausting 7 years. They have become socially isolated. They are reliant on charity support that sometimes isn't even enough to keep hunger at bay.
Hannah is being denied services and supports medically necessary to her recovery. Hannah's frontal lobe syndrome has been ignored and neglected, leaving Hannah regressing. Her aggressive behaviors are increasing and this limits Katherine's ability to socialize Hannah safely as well as being a dangerous situation for Katherine. Hannah needs intervention. If anyone has any information or wants to donated their services to help please reach out to Katherine.
Hannah also suffers from long, often damaging seizures. Katherine NEVER gets a break. Until recently she was sleeping on the floor of the 300 square foot room they live in. They are especially worried now that the food bank might have to close because the food bank can't afford the steep rent hike at the church. These donations mean more than you can imagine.
ON FEBRUARY 25 2021 HANNAH WAS AIRLIFTED TO WESTCHESTER MEDICAL CENTER with major complications from a particularly violent episode.
Katherine describes Hannah's current condition:
"Hannah is in a terrible state. She barely can walk. She is making insane facial jesters/faces. She cannot answer basic questions. She rolls her eyes back in head. She can barely speak. She can't form simple words like mom, warm, her name, etc.. she is drooling."
PLEASE HELP US LIFT THESE LOCAL WOMEN UP.
It's not often we get the chance to directly impact the lives of others in this way.
•Hannah was just sent home after being airlifted to Westchester Medical but she is not well. She is slurring her speech, her short term memory is worse, she is much more aggressive and her walking is way off. In Katherine's words, "They just dumped her. No referrals no doctor follow up. This is how we treat our disabled in America."
•The doctors don't know what is causing these seizures.
•Now that they are home they will use the financial support to buy healthy, fresh foods and medical supplies to aid in Hannah's recovery.
• All funds given will go directly to helping this small family manage life during this crisis.
Katherine is so grateful for the community support. Her and Hannah need it more than you can imagine. Please dig deep and give what you can.
A huge heartfelt thank you to everyone who donates to help Katherine continue to take care of Hannah.
People change, things go wrong, shit happens, but life goes on!
---- Hannah Berryan
My clothes are full of holes & tattered, I haven't had a hair cut in 2 yrs, my car is dying and we live below poverty level but I don't complain or whine because I have been given the greatest gift. Hannah! That smile will move mountains. Hannah teaches me that pure love, waking up to take another breath, and another day are the greatest gifts we have. Stuff is replaceable but a life isn't. ♡♡♡
