Davis Family's Urgent Need: Fire Relief

On January 8th, my world was turned upside down. As the owner of Spring St. Café, I had poured my heart and soul into creating a space that brought comfort and connection to our community in Downtown Los Angeles. But behind the café’s walls was my own story of struggle, perseverance, and hope.
For nearly 30 years, my family’s home wasn’t just a house; it was the center of our lives. It was where cousins were raised, where generations gathered to celebrate life’s milestones, and where our family’s legacy lived. The Eaton Canyon fire took all of that away. It wasn’t just a home—it was my everything. Growing up with very little, I worked tirelessly to build something for myself and my family. Losing it feels like losing my grandmother all over again, the matriarch who passed just last year and who was the heart of our family.
The fire destroyed everything: irreplaceable family mementos, vital documents, clothes, and even one of our cars. My uncle, the last one living in the house, barely escaped with his life. Now, we’re left standing in the ashes of where we spent most of our lives.
Two months ago, I made the difficult decision to close Spring St. Café, with hopes of reopening after some time. But now, after this unimaginable loss, I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to bring it back. The café was more than just a business—it was a dream that represented years of hard work and sacrifice. And now, with no home and no clear path forward, that dream feels more out of reach than ever.
We are proud people, and asking for help is not something that comes easily. But the weight of this loss has left me with no other choice. I’m humbling myself to ask for your support so I can begin rebuilding from the ground up.
The funds we’re asking for will go toward:
- Emergency Essentials: Replacing clothes, shoes, hygiene supplies, bedding, and basic household items.
- Temporary Housing: Securing a safe, stable place to live while we rebuild our lives.
- Rebuilding Our Lives: Replacing vital documents (IDs, birth certificates, , Death Certificates, Social Security Cards), purchasing food, and covering utilities in a temporary home.
This home wasn’t just four walls and a roof—it was the heart of who we are as a family. Without it, we feel lost and untethered. But with your help, I hope we can find the strength to move forward.
Your kindness and generosity mean everything to us. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us take the first steps toward recovery. Thank you for opening your hearts to us during this unimaginably difficult time.
With humility and gratitude,
