Amanda C. Rowe (Hall) Playground
Tax deductible
Amanda C. Rowe (Former Hall) School Playground Fundraising Initiative
The new school is named after Nurse Rowe who started her career with Portland Public Schools in 1983, working as a health teacher, school nurse and district school nurse coordinator. She was the school nurse at Hall Elementary School for over 20 years. Amanda loved the students of Hall School and they loved her because she was patient, kind, funny, creative and a good listener who was always genuinely interested in what they had to say.
Amanda was a fearless advocate for the well-being of students. She tirelessly and courageously served students and families, working at the district, city and state levels to increase students’ health and safety and combat injustice.
Throughout her life, Amanda had a great passion for learning and read voraciously. She traveled all over the world but the two places she loved the most were Baxter State Park and Hall School. She devoted much of her life to making sure that the children of Hall School were safe and healthy, both physically and emotionally. Amanda believed that every child deserved health care and a quality education.
We hope that you will help to carry on her legacy of wellness for all children by supporting our play space.
State and local funding cover most of the project, but not all of it. Without the last $45,000, the playground will not have its water play feature, will lack green (trees & shrubs), a disk swing, and a series of natural stone, log and stump play elements. And the preK area will not have a playhouse, table, or stage area as planned. Hall School's staff teamed up with the School Ground Greening Coalition and the project's landscape architect to develop a play/learning environment that will meet a range of important developmental needs of students.
This unique and fun new space will also be an important park and gathering space for the neighboring community. We can't wait to see it get built, planted and played on!
