Andrea Gibbs Fight Against AML

For months Andrea Gibbs had been going to Peoria for lab draws trying to pinpoint a reason for her headaches. On April 23, 2015 she went in for another routine lab draw and on April 24, 2015 received a call from OSF Peoria informing her that she was being admitted for Leukemia right away, for those that might not know Peoria is about an hour and a half from Moline.
Once at OSF Peoria she was told she would be transported via ambulance to Prentice Women's Hospital Northwestern in Chicago.
After being admitted to Northwestern hospital she under went several blood draws, X-rays and bone marrow tests, finding out later that week it was in fact Leukemia, it was Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
As some of you might not know, Andrea was five months pregnant at the time.
With how aggressive the cancer was spreading and how aggressive the treatment needed to be she lost the baby. So now not only dealing with a diagnosis of cancer but also losing a baby all within about a week of each other was not and is not an easy feat.
Her chemo was administered for a total of 96 hours starting on Tuesday May 4, 2015 and her last day was Saturday May 9, 2015.
To date she is currently just waiting for her next bone marrow test which should happen the week of June 1, 2015 if all goes as planned. We all hope that the test shows she is in remission and can start to process to come back home.
Even if she is cleared to go home she will have countless doctor appointments and follow up tests to keep an eye on the Leukemia, which is just more expenses she will face on top of the expense she already has from the extensive testing and hospital stays.
She has at home a little boy, Anden age 6, who goes to spend weekends with her in the hospital having slumber parties. Trying to keep Anden's home life as normal as possible he is staying with his dad, his aunt and grandparents.
She is employed by Unity Point Trinity Hospital in Moline, IL and Rock Island Fitness Activity Center in Rock Island, IL.
