Ashtyn Messinger is a promising player on the Wolves, one of the two Sequim Little League Softball Teams. My name is Chad and I am one of the assistant coaches this season for the team. Ashtyn is a natural athlete who plays Basketball, Soccer, and this year started Softball for the first time, showing great effort, amazing development, and a positive attitude in all she does. Ashtyn's family owns the Southern Nibble Food Truck found in downtown Sequim, serving authentic Southern Carolina comfort food that my family loves!

On Sunday the 17th, during soccer tryouts, Ashtyn collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest. Thank god for her coaches and having proper training in CPR and Sequim Junior Soccer for having the AED. Her coaches performed CPR for three minutes and she was lifeflighted from Sequim to Seattle. Ashtyn has a known heart disease and receives routine annual check-ups. No limits have ever been placed to prevent her passion for sports and has always been a very athletic, and healthy kid. The doctors have ran every test and she has passed with flying colors, It's truly a mystery why this happened.

Today, at 12pm, they are performing heart surgery to install a defibrillator. She will be able to return to her routines after six weeks, if everything goes well. This medical emergency has turned Ashtyn’s family’s world upside down. They are unable to run their food truck, which means they have no income and no paid time off. The family is forced to rely on their savings while they stay by Ashtyn’s side in the hospital. Nearly losing their daughter has been emotionally devastating, and words can’t describe the trauma they are experiencing.
