Audra's Recovery Fund

To all the earthly angels out there,

One of my dear friends and her family need your help.  Audra Cain is a devoted mother, wife and true friend with a fighting spirit, deep sense ethics and wonderful sense of humor.  For over 15 years, she has struggled with Ulcerative Colitis, auto-immune inflammatory disease that causes painful ulcers in the large intestine.  This disease has left her unable to work and with other health challenges, such as arthritis, that accompany inflammatory auto-immune disease.  Audra has worked diligently to find a cure or solution to her symptoms without success.

For years now, Audra has had flare ups that have left her unable to leave her bed, sometimes for weeks at a time. At these times, her pain has been intense and difficult to bear both physically and mentally.  The medications that kept her Ulcerative Colitis “under control” left her body susceptible to frequent infections which have also plagued her heath.  Audra has felt helpless to relieve the impact these times have on her husband and children.  A few months ago, Audra’s Ulcerative Colitis stopped responding to medication and the disease started to take over.  In March, Audra finally succumbed to having her diseased colon removed in an emergency procedure (an ileostomy).  By the time she arrived at the hospital, she was dangerously malnourished and in unbearable pain.  The surgeon told her that if she hadn’t had the surgery, her colon was so disintegrated that it was hours away from perforating with fatal consequences.

Audra’s prolonged illness has left her body depleted, and her family in hard financial times. Audra’s husband, Anthony, who is a talented self-employed carpenter, has had to take long breaks from work so he can attend to Audra and their two young children.  The past year and a half has been particularly difficult and has left them financially devastated.  Now that her disease has been removed from her body, Audra desperately wants to begin the healing process for all of them.  She is resolved to apply her strong determination and fighting spirit to every aspect of her recovery.  Audra has always championed of the needs of others, especially her children.  She looks forward to having the health and energy to devote herself to her family and friends once her healing process is underway.

Audra, Anthony and their children are a generous and loving family who have shown tremendous strength and grace throughout this ordeal.  Audra and Anthony have borne the burden of this alone for many years and they are reluctant to ask for help.  As a friend and witness to their struggle, I have no such reluctance.  This is a family ready to embrace a new chapter in their lives but there is a road of recovery and healing ahead that may take a year or more.  I ask on their behalf to provide financial assistance to fund the extra support they will need during Audra’s recovery.  Audra is in the acute stage of recovery and needs full time care for the next several weeks.  Her family needs help covering their bills in the short term and expensive therapy in the longer term.  Audra’s required treatments (including physiotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen, functional medicine) are costly and sometimes require travel.  Any amount will help add up to a sum that can really make a difference for this wonderful family!

Thank you in advance for your donations and prayers.
