The purpose of this fundraiser is to request a donation from you on behalf of Audrey's Angels which is an effort to support Audrey Fisher's battle with ALS. Audrey's Angels are her friends and relatives working on this fundraising effort.
Audrey is 56 years old and was officially diagnosed with ALS in January 2014 after showing signs for 1 1/2 years prior to the diagnosis. Life has become increasingly difficult for Audrey and her family since her diagnosis. Funding and research for ALS has just recently become popular since the Ice Bucket Challenge beginning in 2014. Prior to 2014, it was an unknown disease to many. Audrey learned what ALS was when she was diagnosed. The news was devastating at first but she is now determined to battle ALS for the sake of her sons Robert Jr. (20), Zachary (18) and her husband Robert who was her high school sweetheart. Audrey and her husband have been married for 35 years and moved from East Boston to Winthrop 26 years ago. Since her diagnosis, she has participated in 7 different research studies in an attempt to find out more about ALS and she hopes that the research will help find a cure.
During her courageous battle with ALS her health has diminished and she's become physically restricted in many ways. Since our last fundraising effort Audrey's physical condition has continued to worsen. Due to the progression of her disease she has been forced to officially resign from her position at the Department of Revenue after years of continued perseverance. Her husband Robert has since decided to leave work as well in order to become Audrey's full time caregiver. All proceeds of this fundraising effort will be forwarded to Audrey and her family in order to relieve some of their financial strain.
