BNCA Fundraiser for Brookland Charities
Donation protected
BNCA members and other Brookland DC residents:
BNCA is continuing and expanding our fundraising efforts in support of local charitable organizations, and I want to provide several updates on our efforts. First, I have increased our donation goal to $7000. Thanks to your generous support, we have already raised roughly $3500. However, what you cannot see on the GoFundMe page is that about half of that has already been spent supplying food and household supplies through the Brookland Union Baptist Church Food Pantry. There is a continuing need, and so we are continuing to seek donations and hope to reach our $7000 by the Holidays.
Second, we are going to expand our efforts beyond BUBC. We intend to contribute all funds raised under the BUBC campaign to the BUBC Food Pantry. However, going forward, we would like to allocate these resources to several additional local charities. These include Pathways To Housing DC ; Zoes Doors ; and The Sterling (short-term family housing shelter - note this link goes to an Amazon "wish list" where you can purchase supplies and gifts directly for residents of The Sterling).
We want to be transparent with you where these donations are being directed. Due to the pandemic, there is ongoing need for food and supplies through many service organizations, and we have received requests from all of these organizations for support from the local community. The BUBC Food Pantry will remain a primary target of our efforts, but we also intend to use donations to support these other organizations as well.
Thank you for helping BNCA to support these great efforts during this time of serious need in our community.

Original Posting (July 2020):
The Brookland Union Baptist Church (BUBC) (3101 14th St. NE) has established a food and supplies pantry to support neighbors and residents in need, particularly during the pandemic. BNCA is setting up this fundraiser to raise money to make food, school supply, and household purchases for the BUBC pantry.
We are asking you to support us through monetary donations. While it may feel more meaningful to bring donations directly to the church, we are doing it this way in order to make things easier on the church and its volunteers. The church does not have large volunteer capacity and can only operate during limited hours. We at BNCA will handle making regular purchases and delivery of supplies for the church, using your monetary donations. Rene McCray, our membership coordinator, has already begun doing this, making Costco runs. The BNCA board determined to make an initial $1000 donation for supplies, and is looking to your donations in order to help us continue to support the pantry.
The church reports that need in the community is growing quickly as the pandemic goes on. There are certainly other great ways to support those in need around DC. This is a very Brookland-specific effort, which provides aid to neighbors, families with school-age children, elderly residents, shut-ins, and those others in our immediate vicinity who may have trouble accessing basic resources.
Please consider donating at your earliest convenience. We have set $5000 as our initial goal. This would allow us to make several months of weekly food and supply deliveries to the church.
If you know someone in the Brookland community who may be in need, BUBC's distribution hours are from 9 am to 11 am on Tuesdays and Fridays. If you have questions for the church, you may contact them at (202) [phone redacted].
If you want to connect with BNCA regarding this fundraising effort, please contact Rene McCray, ([email redacted]).
Thank you for your support.
