We At Baile Hoose Need Your Support More Now Than Ever.

Please share this message far and wide.

Glasgow City Council are taking the occupants of Baile Hoose to court on Wednesday 24th of November, seeking possession of the building and an immediate eviction. This is only days away.

This crowdfunder is intended to help us with any legal costs. All donations are appreciated, however small, and can be done anonymously.

What Is Baile Hoose?

Our initial aim was to house activists who had been excluded from the COP26 conference through lack of accommodation. We succeeded in safely housing hundreds of people who would otherwise not have been able to attend, ensuring their voices could be heard.

Whilst COP26 has clearly failed in its promise to tackle the climate crisis, the Hoose has succeeded and grown as a community project offering practical solutions to the housing crisis. We have continued to occupy the building beyond COP26, providing much needed shelter and a vital community network.

What Is Happening With The Council?

The Council are seeking to evict us from the building. They are also asking the court to remove their obligation to give a 21 day notice period before an eviction. This implies their intention to carry out the eviction without notice as early as Wednesday.

Furthermore we have only been given 3 working days to find and prepare legal representation. This has been extremely difficult due to the uniqueness of our case.

Whilst the police have harassed and raided us, we have remained resilient. We believe our presence in this building has been an asset to the community. It is unacceptable that the council are attempting to disregard their obligation to give notice to its occupants. This will leave people vulnerable and without accommodation.

Why Are We Still Occupying Baile Hoose?

Our continued occupation is in protest against the lack of accessible and emergency accommodation in Glasgow.

We recognise that Glasgow City Council are in a position where they are chronically and unacceptably underfunded. Time and time again public services are shut down and public assets sold off in an attempt to balance the books.

However, this only deepens the problem. We cannot continue reliving this story whilst poverty continues to grow. The Hamish Allan Centre has been empty for over 3 years. If not brought back into use, it risks being sold to private developers who continue to profit off the systematic destruction of community spaces in Glasgow. We need more agency to bring these buildings back up to standard so they can be run by the community, for the community.

We appreciate you taking the time to read and share this.

Kind Regards,

Baile Hoose
