Who we are:
Baldwin Hills Elementary Pilot & Gifted/ High Ability Magnet (BHEP) is unique and has a reputation for being a gem among LAUSD schools because of our success educating African-American and Latino children. Though high achieving, we believe there should not be a ceiling on achievement and that we can do more when given the autonomy to make decisions that directly impact the children we know so well and teach.
Our aim is to foster an academically rigorous, culturally responsive instructional setting that can propel our scholars to meet their limitless potentials. To meet this goal, we continue to solicit greater parent and community engagement and partnerships by increasing outreach efforts, implementing a STEAM centered curriculum utilizing project and problem-based learning while continuing to affirm who our students are and what they bring through employing culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogical practices, along with increasing staff collaboration around planning, assessment, curriculum and instruction through the establishment of professional learning communities (PLCs).
What we offer by way of STEAM:
· Online instructional programs to support personalized learning
via 1:1 iPads
· Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) for mathematics
· Critical thinking through chess instruction
· Yoga
· Engineering
· Robotics
· P.S. Arts (Music, dance, drumming)
· Instrumental Music (Grades 4 & 5)
What we are seeking:
To provide our scholars and families access to 21st century instructional tools and ways of demonstrating understanding through the arts is a choice we are intentionally making, because our children deserve nothing less. This programming is not funded by the District and if we want to see these offerings for our community, we have to dedicate the funds to do so. We are looking to raise $125,000 to fund our STEAM offerings for the 2020-2021 academic year. Any amount you provide is appreciated!
We appreciate your support, knowing it takes parental and community engagement to make this happen.
