Be You Inc’s School Audition Grants
Donation protected
If you're a young person who wants to audition for performing arts universities, you're expected to pay a fee to audition. This year these fees are $75 per school - so if you want to apply to study at just two of these universities you will be expected to pay $150 for the opportunity.
These fees are not covered by a HECS- or FEE-HELP loan, and are non-refundable.
We believe these fees are a large barrier to entry for people who are disadvantaged, and we want to help.
We’re giving out grants to people who find it hard to audition for performing arts schools due to the expensive audition application fees.
We’re covering the first four grants ourselves, and want to see if the community can match our contribution!
The schools all charge roughly $75 to apply to audition, and there are so many young people who aren’t able to easily pay this fee. We don’t want this to be a barrier to enter the music theatre industry (especially when these courses are covered by loans available for these Commonwealth supported places).
We would love to give out as many grants as possible.
We’re giving 4 grants for those who have encountered barriers and/or have struggled to access our industry due to experiencing disadvantage.
In line with our philosophy of diversity, access, and inclusion, at least half of these grants will be awarded to people who identify as diverse or people of colour.
For every new $75 donation, we will add one more grant - starting with another PoC grant.
All the money raised here will go directly to assisting emerging artists to cover these fee barriers, with the goal of having more traditionally marginalised people without wealth as part of our beloved music theatre community.
If you have the capacity to donate, any and all donations are welcome.
$5 will help us get to our next goal
$25 is 1/3 of a grant
$75 is one whole grant (and we'll gladly let you name it)
$150 provides two people the chance to audition for a school
