Gold Beach Main Street Project
Donation protected
In the month of May 2016, the Gold Beach Beautification Committee was formed. The goal of the Committee is to network, partner and collaborate the community in an effort to further beautify the City of Gold Beach. Currently, our mission statement reads as such; to organize as a grass-roots non-profit, and to initiate community enhancement projects that combat community deterioration and lessen neighborhood tensions through programs aimed at streetscape improvements, economic development, beautification and community arts programs that contribute to the general quality of community life. Emphasis is placed on creating a hands-on experience of across the age’s collaboration in the spirit of the rural barn raising tradition, where each member of the given community or working group contributes to the quality of life according to their skill level and age.
Currently, the Beautification Committee is in collaboration with the City of Gold Beach, Master Gardeners of OSU’s 4-H program, Innominata Garden Club, Central Curry School District, Curry County, Coos Forest, Jerry’s Rogue Jets, Jot’s Resort, TuTu’ Tun Lodge and over 250 members of the community. That list of partners will grow as the enthusiasm expands.
Following is a list of projects we intend to complete on July 23rd, 2016. This work will be catapulted to completion with the workforce of 300 people, including the Mormon Church:
1. East and West side of the North end of the Patterson Memorial Bridge: Landscaping, observation deck and parking spaces.
2. North driveway of the Port, off of Highway 101: Plant trees and shrubs to break up the monotony of the ODOT chain link fence.
3. Riley Creek School ball field: Replace roofing on dugout, repaint bleachers and install a small amount of fencing where young children are at risk for falling into Riley Creek.
4. Riley Creek School garden: Replace the fence around the garden.
5. Gold Beach High School: Landscape flowerbeds north and south of the parking lot stairs. Plant under the reader board.
6. Wally's House on 8th street: Landscaping and design for handicap accessibility.
7. Gold Beach Visitor Center: Landscape grassy area between Highway 101 and the upper parking lot.
8. City-wide: Removal of invasive ivy.
We have solidified the team of citizens and vested groups offering and willing to maintain said projects. In that, we have proposed to the Central Curry School District that these projects be adopted by the senior class as ongoing senior projects, as required for graduation.
Please consider donating to the beautification of Gold Beach. With your help, we will be able to plant and create amazing splashes of colored landscaping, provide a visually appealing atmosphere and sustain a mainstreet presence we can all be proud of.
