The Call No Parent Wants To Answer!
On January 19th we received a call no parent ever wants to receive. Valley Health, Winchester Medical Center was treating our son, Benjamin, and when they attempted to intubate him the ballon burst causing respiratory arrest. They made a second attempt to intubate him; resulting in cardiac arrest.
After 20 minutes of CPR they called us asking if they should continue or let him go. "We are ministers of life so do whatever it takes for life!" We told them. After 5 minutes they found a pulse!
We told them we were on our way. They said "take your time, we don't expect him to be here (alive) when you arrive." Our reply, We declare 'Life!'"
Packing 4 children, contacting my employer, making arrangements for our dog, and getting ready to travel to Winchester, VA became our top priority! When we started our drive, I turned on our radio and "Speak Life" was the 1st song playing! Isn't our God awesome!
As we were traveling they needed to perform an emergency tracheotomy; this surgery took 2 hours. When we arrived he was with seizures every 20-30 seconds...fever...tubes everywhere...
What did we do? We began to pray, praise, and declare "Life!"
With Benjamin in Ohio for the past year it has been challenging setting balance with our life and his care. Prayers are always appreciated.
