"Bengal Memory" is a documentary film about Bangladesh's Liberation War, the forgotten genocide of 1971 and the controversial role the U.S. government played in it. Directed and produced by Fahim Hamid, a Bangladeshi American who grew up with stories from his family about the war, this film centers on his father's experiences and memories of the terrible violence unleashed by West Pakistan. With firsthand accounts from survivors, witnesses and freedom fighters, as well as experts and scholars who provide insight into the context and politics of the conflict, "Bengal Memory" is an oral history, told through a personal lens, that seeks to bring to light a dark chapter of history that is often neglected by the international community. Rare archival footage and recordings, including declassified White House tapes, show a complicity between the U.S. President Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger and the West Pakistani regime responsible for the killings of hundreds of thousands of people in what was then East Pakistan—now, Bangladesh.

Our film is in production and we are raising money for our expenses: including travel to Bangladesh, crew and equipment costs, post-production, licensing of footage and music, distribution and marketing. With a goal of $25,000, we hope to raise enough to make a 30 min version of this film by Aug 2024. Later on, we hope to expand it to a feature-length version, with a plan to submit it to festivals and find distribution.

Fahim's previous films have appeared on PBS, CUNY-TV (in New York), UKW Media and at numerous film festivals. "Bengal Memory" is a personal project that has been developed over several years and our team is excited to finally be completing this film and bringing this story to audiences across the world.
