Big Lake Cheer Varsity Team to Nationals!

BIG LAKE CHEERLEADING - VARSITY COMPETITION TEAM 

IS HEADING TO ORLANDO, FL TO COMPETE AT NATIONALS!

The Big Lake Cheerleading program has been under the guidance of Coaches Derek and Kaylene Nelson since 2016, and has grown the program from a single team of 12 to four teams totaling 35 cheerleaders. The mission of the cheerleading program is to support the development of future leaders, act as representatives of the school and community, and promote future success of all students. These goals are achieved through the interpersonal skill development of each student athlete, while teaching the importance of social responsibility through volunteering, acts of philanthropy and supporting other programs and students throughout the district. Through the impact of the program, students have achieved skills and opportunities that will prepare them for their future. This year alone, multiple area schools sent written recognition to the Principle and Activities Director of Big Lake, as a result of the positive attitude and sportsmanship the Big Lake cheerleaders have maintained at events.

On December 1, 2018, the Big Lake Cheerleading Competition Varsity team competed at a UCA Regional Competition, successfully earning a Qualifying Nationals invitation. Though this is an exciting opportunity for the team, it comes with significant financial burden. Multiple fundraisers and volunteer events are underway to work towards offsetting the costs of Nationals, and to give the program its first ever opportunity to compete in Florida.

It is with the help and support of others, that the Big Lake Cheerleading program can achieve this amazing opportunity. The students involved in the program have proven that Uniforms and Bows DO NOT make the cheerleader, but are merely the branding of something far more amazing.
