The Bill Scott Cancer Benefit

Donation protected

My name is Amanda Auld. I am the grand-daughter to Bill Scott, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 throat and bone cancer.
After having trouble swallowing, with what we all thought was a sore throat and cold, for almost a month, my Grandpa started coughing up blood in early September of 2015. We all started freaking out, of course. We immediately took him to the ER where we were told pharyngitis. Little did we know, less than a month later we would be sitting in an oncology (cancer) doctor's office.
My Grandpa continued to have complications with swallowing and eating less and less every day. We actually started to watch him waste away. At that point, his primary doctor decided we needed to figure out what was going on. They took him in for what was supposed to be a simple procedure to check his throat and see what was going on. At this point, my Grandpa hadn't lost his complete mass yet so the drugs they gave him to do the procedure didn't work. So on to the next hospital we went, where they were able to do the procedure but didn't see anything of signifigance. The doctors told us another test needed to be done. So a couple of weeks went by and he had another procedure done where, this time, they did find something: epiglottal cancer or cancer of the throat (specifically the little hanging ball in the back of your throat). We were told it would be life altering but not life threatening. Our worlds came crashing down upon us. My Grandpa, the man who has always been so strong, nothing could ever touch him. Was this really happening?
We then were referred to a hospital that was supposedly "more apt for cancer treatments". This was nothing but appointment after appointment. And next thing we knew, it was October and NO treatment or plan had been made for treatment. We were befuddled! These are supposed to be the people supporting my Grandpa and our family in this difficult time and they were not being helpful or supportive at all.
It all came to a head October 30. Grandma and Grandpa were coming back from a doctor's appointment 45 minutes away from home and about 10 minutes from home my Grandpa complained of shortness of breath. Thankfully, there was a hospital nearby, so my Grandma raced there. After everything was all said and done, he had blood clots in both lungs AND pneumonia! The doctor said he was lucky to be alive. So we were transferred to another hospital where the care was a complete joke. After a week of sitting in the hospital having a bad experience everyday (I won't go into details), my Grandpa said enough is enough and signed himself out.
We recently within the past couple of weeks started seeing a new doctor in a new facility and he just started chemo treatments last week with a not so great prognosis. They told us they weren't sure they could cure it but they may be able to manage it.
Right now we are in the process of trying to raise funds for travel to get back and forth to appointments and treatments, help with paying bills, groceries. Right now, my Grandma, at 66, is the only person working and bringing funds in while taking Grandpa back and forth to treatments and appointments. They also are in desperate need of getting a shower downstairs so my Grandpa doesn't have to walk up and down the steps to take a bath or shower. (He now, unfortunately, is on oxygen all the time due to the blood clots.)
We recently started planning a benefit: The Bill Scott Benefit.--Thank you Kim and Jason Sieberkrob and all the other wonderful people helping out with all of this-- All that we are asking is to donate anything that you can because EVERY PENNY HELPS! :) Thank you to anyone who donates. I'm sure each and every one of you has been affected by cancer at some time or other in your life whether a family member, friend or yourself. So I'm sure a lot of people understand the struggle. My family and I will never be able to thank you enough for any and all help that you are willing to donate. Thank you, again!!
