Srey is turning BIG 33 this year! Since this is her very first birthday as Mrs.Yin-Kim and we received so much love from everyone at our wedding, we want to give back to the community this year.

After our wedding, we spent a month hopping around Quintana Roo, Mexico. After countless tacos and cenotes, we fell in love with Tulum for its multicultural food and beach life. As you know, Tulum is a beautiful tourist destination but it's also a place where socioeconomic inequality is rampant.

Most of the locals rely on the tourism industry as taxi drivers, janitors, maids, and security guards. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism industry completely shut down and locals have lost their jobs. Not only did the locals lack medical support, many died due to starvation and suicide.

Families live in overcrowded and substandard housing, without access to basic necessities like clean water and sanitation. There are countless nights when kids fall asleep to the sound of gunshots and drunk fights. Since locals are heavily involved in prostitution, drug, and cartel, violence and casualties are everywhere. With an increasing number of rape, unwanted teenage pregnancies are also increasing.

Team COINTREE is located at the center of the illegal occupation area in Tulum. My friend Juanito is playing, sharing, and loving with 1,000 children and his beautiful family: Luna and Woo Zoo. His team is providing after-school programs, job training, and medical support for locals and hopes to see these kids go to university one day. During the pandemic, team COINTREE has provided medical services, meals, and baby formulas!

We visited the COINTREE school and got LIT with the kids at the pizza party and felt truly heartfelt and inspired by the students’ stories. Through the hardship at home, they all wanted to think big and do more for their family to chase after their dream.

Instead of fancy dinners and gifts, we decided to raise money to share with our friends out in Tulum. With your generous donation (Srey’s birthday gift), our goal is to throw a BIG pizza party for students and provide baby formulas at COINTREE!
