Support for Sunni’s Cancer Fight

Our names are Jennifer and Rachel. We are fundraising for our sister Sunni. Sunni was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer on Christmas Day, 2021. As her stay at UK Markey Center progressed, more tests were completed. Each day after Christmas, there seemed to be more bad news all the way up to New Year's Eve. We found out that she had cancer on her brain, liver, lungs, spleen and bones.

In 2013, Sunni was diagnosed with Stage 0 (zero) breast cancer, had a complete mastectomy and underwent genetic testing for mutations in our family. Our mother, our grandmother and numerous other family members had passed of breast cancer. From that genetic testing, she discovered that she did have the genetic mutation CHEK2, which increased her chances of breast cancer by 50%. Since her genetic testing, 3 more of us siblings have discovered that we also have the CHEK2 gene. Although Sunni had a double mastectomy which lowered her risk, Metastatic Breast Cancer is a sneaky, relentless, evil beast. It can have symptoms similar to that of every day aches and pains. Until one day it is much more, and it is too late.

Before her diagnosis, Sunni was just beginning to live her best life. She's faced many difficulties and obstacles over the years. Hard times that most people would have quit on--but she has always gotten back up and said, "I'm going to do this. I'm going to make it." We've always said, 'Sunni is a survivor'. But this time is different. We were informed by the doctors that Metastatic Breast Cancer Stage 4 has a survival rate of 30% at 5 years. What that means is that at 5 years, our sister Sunni has a 30% chance of still being alive.

Sunni lives in Frankfort, Ky with her 2 year old daughter Charli and her fiancé Larry. She was working full time and contributing to the family bills up until she went in the hospital on Christmas Eve. Although Larry is a hard worker and wonderful provider for their family, the loss of her income is beginning to have an impact.

With the money raised from this GoFundMe, we will be able to help soften the blow to their finances by paying their rent and childcare for two months. Anything above the goal will be used going forward to show Sunni the most dignity and love that we can possibly give her.
