Help David Block challenge myths about people less abled

My name is David Block and I make films about the challenges people with disabilities face. This new film tells a heartwarming story about a place where people with disabilities can be part of the working world thanks to GET Café.

Working title:

Brewing Possibilities: A Café for Everyone

Brooke Goodspeed was sick and tired of seeing people with disabilities like her son mistreated, and fed up with potential employers slamming their doors in the faces of people less able-bodied, so she decided to fight back. In 2019, Brooke founded GET Café; a café for everyone.

The story needs to be told because there are still hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities still out of work. According to the Bureau of Labor Statics, “The unemployment rate for people with a disability was 7.2 percent in 2023, about twice that of those with no disability (3.5 percent).”

I am best positioned to produce and direct this documentary, not just because of my 33 years of experience but because I am part of the GET Café Family. I have worked there since 2019. I know the people there. I’m part of their world.

GET Café has become more than just a café, it’s a community; a place where being non-speaking, mentally challenged, partially blind and autistic are normal. It is a non-judgmental atmosphere. With your help, we can tell the world about this life-changing project so that it can be duplicated all over the world.

Your donation will be used for production and post-production. We have some shooting done, but more is needed to tell the story, and then we'll need editing, music, color correction and sound mix to bring the story to life.
