Brian Bday Wish - help the Orphans

To Friends and Family
Brian’s 70th birthday is coming up and as many of you know, our dad is not going to be looking for a big party with a lot of hoop-la. The five of us kids thought that the best way to honour our dad would be to reach out to our friends and family to help raise money for the orphanage in Battambang, Cambodia, where he has done work with the local rotary club. Dad is a very humble man and does not know that we are doing this for him, but he will be beyond pleased to see his friends and family helping out with a cause so close to his heart. Dad is very grateful for all he has and all the blessings we all have, that it has become a huge passion of his to help the children in this orphanage to have the opportunity to move on to greater things when they leave and have a real chance at getting further education.
Below is a little bit about the past projects at the orphanage that Dad has worked on with the South Surrey Rotary Club.
The Battambang Orphanage, in Cambodia has 20-25 children and is the South Surrey Rotary Club’s international project and our international director Brian O’Ruairc over sees it. Brian has visited this orphanage twice, first in 2014 to meet with the organizers of the orphanage, the Rotary Club in Bangkok, Thailand who partnered with us, and also members of the Float Foundation from Amsterdam. Brian met with members of all the above and helped draw up plans for the needs, requirements and improvements of the orphanage and what part each group would play. Brian was very instrumental in putting this plan together and assessing the needs of the buildings etc. Brian was very moved by what he saw or lack of what he saw. South Surrey Rotary raised money to rebuild the kitchen and renovate the girl’s dormitory. Brian returned in 2015 to oversee what had been completed and what the next projects should be, and in what order they should be carried out.
Again South Surrey raised money and with a grant from the district, renovated the boy’s dormitory, updated the electrical and water system and constructed a garden. Brian is very passionate about this project and the need that is there. By helping these children and improving their lives and education we are helping not just the children, but also their families and their future families, friends and community by what they will be able to give back.
Now that the basic living conditions for the children have been improved, Dad would like to start improving the educational needs for the children with desks, educational supplies, sewing machines, garden tools etc. We are all extremely lucky to live in Canada, where all our basic needs are met, especially in comparison to those living in less developed parts of the world. However much you are able to donate to help these children live a better life and have the chance to move on to greater things would be amazing and make not only for an very happy 70th birthday for our dad, but would truly make his year to see so many people rallying behind a cause that he is very passionate about.
We thank you in advance for any contribution you are able to make.
